1) Coldplay. Just one question. Why??!!

2) Stone Roses. Utterly brilliant 1st album and the 2nd wasn't bad. But it was the Mondays that really got that "Mad-chester" thing going, the Roses were nothing more, and nothing less than a great rock 'n roll band.

[b3) Primal Scream.
[/b]See 2.

4) The Rolling Stones. Just what, in over 40 years, have this band actually done? If the answer is to record some 2nd hand blues records whilst harbouring a ....well, how old was Mandy Smith? on bass and a meglomaniac on vocals then I suppose they've scored 3 points.

5) Kasabian.
I think that this band are dreadful. Seriously, and I know they're popular, I do not understand the appeal. I know that the Kaiser Chiefs are naff (and old) but at least they can write a tune...

6) Joy Division. Also see Nirvana etc for reasons why a genuinely good band, as they both were, became a "great" band just because some-one decided to top themself.

7) The Clash. My 3rd all time favourite band, but let's have some restraint. Yes, they were great. But also let's not forget "Cut the Crap" and Mick Jones's backing vocals, especially on "White Man (In Hammersmith Palais)".

That'll do for now, any comments gratefully recieved! And, for the record, I like all of the bands I've listed except the Stones and Coldplay. And Kasabian.

Shocked There were some over-rated Britpop bands, yeah. But what about Elastica, Oasis, Lush, Blur and Pulp? Plus Radiohead got a bit of a piggy-back. None of these bands could be considered over-rated by any objective critic. In my opinion, of course!

Can't agree with that. Yes, they're over-rated, but they are shit-hot. Good lyrics too. Other bands of their ilk are View and Automatic, and Brakes. They're good too, and one thing that has to be recognised is that British guitar bands are still the best, whether you like 'em or not! Let's be gratefull for them!
