| Led Zeppelin were far better than The Who in my opinion. They evolved and tried many types of music. I'm sure Rob will accuse them of being pretentious hippies but at least they didn't release TWO rock operas. |

I don't particularly like either, but I'd go with Led Zeppelin. Just.
I prefer Purple, or Uriah Heep. But the daddies have to be Sabbath, Tony Iommi, guitar riff genius! |

The Oo are incomparably better. Daltrey's voice is vastly better than Plant's, and Townsend's playing is so much crisper and more economical than Page's. If you considert the lyrics, Townsend's writing actually has a bearing on the real world which Plant and Page can't match.
However, I must admit that "Stairway" is the song I rate most highly by either band.
Incidentally, the other half of Second Time Round profoundly disagrees with me about how overrated Zep are. Still, she's only a singer, what would she know? _________________ The Lightning: covers

Tauzero is right. The Who's songs were led melody-wise by Entwhistle's bass. Moon's drumming was almost like having a keyboard player because of his tuneful and comlex application, not to mention brutal use of his kit, and Townsend's guitar work was almost like a bed of solid, but thin slate beneath it all. For proof of all this, listen to "The Real Me" from Quadrophenia. Yes, they did Rock Operas, but the theme was always grounded in "working class culture". Oh, and Led Zeppelin wrote songs about Misty Mountain Tops and things breaking and Lemons, which everybody could, of course, instantly relate to Rob....... |

Whilst we're on the subject, Rob, have you heard any of the new Who stuff? It's pants. I don't know what you reckon, but they should've stopped when Moon died. Like Led Zeppelin did when Bonzo karked it.... |

| I don't know how they have the nerve to still call themselves the Who with the whole rhythm section missing mate. |

The whole rhythm section missing? Youi mean that between Moon popping his clogs in 1978 and The Ox getting slaughtered in 2002, no-one played drums for them?
Seeing as the Oo's currewnt drummer is Zak Starkey, who Moon taught, there is something of a link still there. And just how much of a band must be original? Should Status Quo drop their name - they've only got 50% of the original members. And Pink Floyd must be looking just as dodgy, with neither Barrett nor Waters in the lineup for quite a few years now... _________________ The Lightning: covers

| Maybe I was being a bit harsh, but Status Quo haven't done anything of any note since 1979 and Pink Floyd are pretty much defunct now aren't they? |
