DANCE CROWD FIGHTSDANCE CROWD FIGHTS
FIGHTING broke out late on Friday night between teenagers following a dance in Fazeley parish hall.

More than 200 teenagers were at the dance.

Fighting broke out as they were leaving the building, which fronts on to the busy A5 Watling Street.

Police moved in to quell the disturbance.

Two youths were arrested and charged with threatening behaviour. They were later bailed out to appear at a future court.

COMMITTEE WILL TAKE A LONG, HARD LOOK AT ASSEMBLY ROOMS
TAMWORTH’S Corporation-owned Assembly Rooms are to be put under the microscope.

Alderman Tom Kennedy admitted that the piano – about 60 years old – was a “wreck” and the curtains a “disgrace”.

Doctor Diagnoses Assembly Rooms IllsDoctor Diagnoses Assembly Rooms Ills
A SHOCK diagnosis of the 'ills' of the Corporation-owned Assembly Rooms was given to members of Tamworth Borough Council on Tuesday night by Councillor Dr. Philip Barford.

He told them the “tatty” rooms were a disgrace and an insult to any concert party, choir or theatre group.

The council confirmed a committee decision to provide a cheaper type of curtain material and to call for a report on the future use of the rooms. They also agreed with a decision to obtain comparative costs of buying or hiring a new piano and in the meantime to hire a new piano.

This follows a recent complaint that during a visit by a Welsh choir, matchsticks had to be used to repair a vital part of the piano then in use.
